Definition
Family reunification is the legal process through which a spouse, registered partner, child, or sometimes another dependent relative joins a person who already has lawful residence in a country. In work-migration contexts, the main applicant's residence permit often creates a pathway for family members to apply for their own linked status. Eligibility usually depends on proof of relationship, accommodation, income, insurance, and the sponsor's immigration status.
