Definition
PESEL is Poland's national personal identification number. It is used across public administration, social systems, healthcare, and many practical employment processes, which makes it important even beyond the immigration file itself. A person may obtain lawful residence first and then still need PESEL to function smoothly in everyday Polish administration.
