Definition
A grace period is a short legally recognised window during which an immigration status holder can take corrective action after something changes, such as losing a job, changing employer, or reaching the end of a permit's main purpose. Depending on the route, that window may allow the person to find a new sponsor, submit a renewal, or depart voluntarily without immediately falling into unlawful stay. Countries differ sharply on whether they provide a grace period at all and how long it lasts.
