Definition
Biometrics are identity markers, usually fingerprints and a facial photograph, collected by immigration authorities as part of a visa, residence permit, or border-control process. The data is used to verify the applicant's identity, reduce document fraud, and personalise a visa sticker or residence card. Many long-stay routes require an in-person appointment for biometrics even when the rest of the form is completed online or filed by an employer.
