Definition
A change of status is an immigration procedure in which a person who already has lawful stay in a country applies to move onto a different legal basis without starting again from zero abroad. Examples include switching from a student permit to a work permit, from a job-seeker permit to an employment route, or from a temporary permit to a settlement category. Whether an in-country switch is allowed depends on the specific national rules and the applicant's current status.
