Definition
An in-country application is a filing made while the applicant is already physically present in the destination country and lawfully entitled to submit from there. Some routes allow this for renewals, status switches, researchers, graduates, or applicants who entered visa-free, while others require the first filing to begin abroad. Whether an in-country application is allowed can be one of the most important differences between otherwise similar visa and permit routes.
